Weighing yourself regularly can help you to lose or maintain weight, and has been shown to be a great incentive to keep you eating sensibly and striving for an ideal weight. Once a week works better for some, as small weight fluctuations from day to day can be discouraging. Others find it helpful to do a daily weigh-in. It comes down to doing what works best for you as an individual. First thing in the morning is the best time to weigh yourself. A healthy, plant-based diet plus regular exercise plus getting real about my weight has proven a successful formula for me!
Commercial salad dressings, even the “natural” brands, are often ridiculously expensive and high in fat. Making salad dressing at home is so easy, but I often get lazy about it because several items need to be messed up and then washed — bowl, whisk, measuring cups, spoons. As a huge fan of salads of all kinds, I can’t believe that I lived this long without a salad spinner. So when Progressive International sent me their collapsible salad spinner* to try out, I was interested, but not not exactly excited. After one try, though, I was sold! I might never have put a salad spinner on a list of “must-have” kitchen gadgets, but I think I’ve changed my tune. Turmeric is often referred to as the queen of spices, as its medicinal powers (healing, antioxidant, cleansing) have long been valued. Its bright yellow hue adds a ray of sunshine to Indian curries, and its warm flavor is beloved by many. I’m not one of them. Its kind of woodsy, odd flavor puts me off, and if I use it at all, it’s quite sparingly. So it came as somewhat of a shock to me how much I loved the samples I received from Tumeric (yes, it’s spelled without the “r”): The Elixir of Life.
