They are a great way to get a bold dose of veggies, fiber, and nutrients in a healthy, convenient, low‐calorie way. Recipe and photo from Chia: The Complete Guide to the Ultimate Superfood* by Wayne Coates, PhD.

Serves: 1

  • 1 tablespoon chia seeds
  • 1½ cups pear juice, coconut water, water, or a mixture
  • 3 romaine lettuce or kale leaves

  • Parsley sprigs

Add all ingredients to a blender and liquefy using the most powerful setting. Blend until smooth. Drink immediately.

Claudia, I think I know what you’re getting at, and the answer is yes; chia seeds don’t need to be ground like flaxseeds in order to reap the benefits. Though using them ground is perfectly OK, too. Just make sure to use them with plenty of liquid!

you can also soak chia seeds in a small amount of water and they will create a gel that mixes easier!
