Are you searching for a way to give your immune system a boost? How about a drink that can relieve stress? Well, if you’re holding a cup of lemon ginger tea in your hand, then you’re on the right track! Sweet, spicy and one of the best drinks to have during the winter, this tea is power-packed with some incredible health and body care benefits too! And here’s how to make your own Fresh Ginger-Lemon Tea (which is actually an infusion, not really “tea.”)
Let’s see how:
- It Boosts Your Immune System: On top of the list of benefits of lemon ginger tea is its ability to strengthen your immunity. This is due to the presence of high levels of anti-oxidants in ginger. Lemons are an excellent source of vitamin C which can heal wounds and preserve the strength of bones and teeth. In the onset of cold and flu, the tea can act as an effective anti-biotic. The bioflavonoids that lemons contain help to prevent cancer cells from growing and spreading. The anti-oxidants in the lemons help in reducing inflammation and arthritis symptoms. The powerful anti-oxidants can reduce free radicals in the body. Ginger also increases blood circulation in the body that is vital for optimum health.
- It Brings Instant Relief From Nausea and Indigestion: Vomiting and nausea usually occur as symptoms of a body disorder. Lemon ginger tea provides the best relief mechanism. Moreover, if you have a motion sickness tendency, you can drink a cup of this tea prior to travel to prevent nausea. It can also help cure the vomiting related to chemotherapy and pregnancy, which is a relief during that period. It eases the pain and uneasiness of an upset stomach. The ginger and lemon in the tea lowers the chances of heartburn and indigestion. It causes the food to be better absorbed by the body and prevents belching and bloating after eating too much. It improves your appetite as well.
- It Lowers The Effects Of Diabetes: New research has thrown light upon the fact that drinking this tea on a daily basis can reduce kidney damage that occurs due to the effects of diabetes. The high levels of zinc found in ginger play a prime role in the production and secretion of insulin. It is the insulin that controls the blood sugar levels and keeps diabetes in check. Other harmful effects of diabetes like blood pressure, heart problems and so on can be countered by the anti-oxidants present in the drink.
- It Is Your One-Stop-Drink To Perfect Skin And Great Hair: As mentioned above, the tea is rich in anti-oxidants and vitamins which are beneficial for perfect skin, hair and health. The beverage helps in improving your digestion and guides you towards smooth and flawless skin. The antibacterial and antiseptic properties protect your skin from infections. For strong and beautiful hair, the tea provides you a natural aid. Vitamin A and C are recommended in plenty for those with hair issues, as they combat the production of DHT in the scalp that in turn triggers hair growth. A vitamin and anti-oxidant rich drink like lemon ginger tea will help you overcome hair problems in an absolute natural and simple way.
- It Is The Apt Drink For Weight Loss: High blood sugar levels trigger cravings for carbohydrates and fatty foods. Ginger helps to normalize these sugar levels which otherwise can affect your ability to lose weight or eat healthy food. Ginger also improves fat absorption and prevents it from accumulating in the body. Both ginger and lemon have anti-inflammatory properties that prevent inflammations and enhance the activity of the liver that helps in shedding those extra pounds. The smell of lemons reduces stress causing an increase in metabolism and proper organ function that can help in weight loss.
How do we prepare lemon ginger tea?
Using green tea as a base, finely chop the ginger root and infuse it boiling water for twenty minutes. This helps in transferring the active ingredients into the liquid. Adding two tablespoons of lemon juice and honey or stevia into the mix helps in both sweetening the tea as well as countering the spicy effects of the ginger. It can be served either hot or cold as the revitalizing effects are the same.
Lemon ginger tea can be very refreshing to drink with its medicine like qualities. Moreover, a few recent studies suggest that it can help to stop blood clotting and lower cholesterol levels. This can prevent cardio-vascular diseases and strokes from taking place.
If you feel tensed or worn out, the drink can also be an effective stress reliever. The strong aroma, spicy and refreshing taste and calming effects provide you relief and relaxation of your body and mind.
Try it out today and feel healthy and energetic!

Nava
January 20, 2015 at 7:53 pmSue, I don’t think powdered ginger would have the same benefits or flavor. But in a pinch, use 1/4 tsp per cup of tea and juice of 1/2 lemon, more or less to taste.

April 29, 2015 at 10:25 amI simply just use about 1cm of af small gingerroot, which i cut into small pieces, then, i cut 3 slices of lemon, and make them into quarters. I take the little cubes og ginger and the quarters og lemon slices and put them in a cup and pour hot water. then let it set for about 10min, og enjoy.. i LOVE this – it tastes so good, and i don’t put any sweeteners or anything in it – you can do, if you feel like it.

June 21, 2015 at 12:59 amI shred frozen ginger (i store it in the freezer and makes it easier to shred). Add half a lemon to a inch or more chunk of shredded ginger. I also add 3 cinammon sticks and 2 cloves for added health and flavor benefits. If I find tumeric root I shred and add that. Does make everything yellow, but found it oddly makes the tea sweeter. Boil 20 min with 4 cups or so water. Strain. Add honey if desired and drink! Pretty much cures alot of things and makes you feel relaxed.

I’ve been throwing up everything and i am dehydrated. I am drinking ginger boiled in warm water and i sorta feel better. however the tea with honey and lemon made me feel queezy and i might have to go throw up again. So i prefer just ginger and water. August 17, 2015 at 10:59 pmMy body weight is perfect as per height:body mass ratio. If I take this tea regularly, will it reduce my body weight as it is not required? Is straining of ginger necessary after boiling? Will it be necessary/beneficial to steep the tea for 5-10 minutes after adding lemon and honey and strain the ginger and drink? Lastly, quantity of ginger to be used.

August 24, 2015 at 3:32 amI would recommend using fresh ginger and lemon as often as possible. If this is not easy due to seasonal changes, then opt for something organic or without artificial flavourings, preservatives or colours. These are just placing foreign chemicals in your body with no benefit – simply places an extra load on the liver and kidneys. It also needs to be considered that everything you eat or drink has the potential to enter every cell – it is why we eat in the first place. Nerada is a good brand for herbal tea as it is also fairtrade. This is available in Australia. Other brands are also available in the supermarket or Health food Store. The best thing to do is check the ingredients because even some organic products can place some preservatives and emulsifiers. Another substitute for green tea is peppermint tea. This is because whilst green tea has many anti-oxidants, it does contain caffeine which is a diuretic (increases urination) and can lower iron absorption. This means to simply control the amount of green tea rather than drink 5 cups a day. Two is plenty and the rest can be non-caffeinated tea. Peppermint tea also improves digestion. So do your research and make smart decisions – that way no one can sell you fake things 🙂

August 26, 2015 at 3:48 pmI began drinking ginger tea (no green tea or lemon or sweetener of any kind) at least once a day about a month ago. I have had gastrointestinal issues for a decade or more and lately the pain has been intense. I try for at least one cup a day, but sometimes take more. I love the fresh taste hot or cold. Seems like it is up to me to decide how strong to make it. I peel and slice the rhizomes thin and put them in a stainless tea ball. Pour boiling water over it and let it steep and steep and steep. Take the warm cup out and store the rest in a glass jar. I do not refrigerate it because cold drinks seem to aggravate my issues. But a quart only lasts me a day or two and it’s time to make more.

August 31, 2015 at 11:31 pmAs long as I can remember my mum and dad always used garlic and ginger in stews. Never go without ginger in stews and stirfrys and I love eating it raw or I leave big chunks in my cooking so I can munch out on it. When my children were growing up, I had to cut the ginger thin because they didnt like the taste. Today theyve grown up to cook it in their stews and stirfrys. Love ginger!!

October 28, 2015 at 12:26 amI absolutly adore this drink! It is the perfect combination of tangy and bitter, spicy and sweet. It is both refreshing and comforting. However I am concerned about any possible effects of drinking too much?!! Should I be worried about my consumption of this delicious infused drink?

December 28, 2015 at 4:44 pmI have recently had blocked saliva glands and got told to have lemon juice in water to get the saliva flowing. Since it’s so hot here at the moment, I started making green tea and letting it sit until it’s cold. Then adding lemon juice, ginger and ice to fresh fruit (Strawberries, banana etc) to make smoothies. I have been having lemon juice for 5 months and was initially worried about my teeth, but lemon juice stimulates saliva and saliva production assists in keeping teeth and gums healthy. I make sure I brush twice a day and use toothpaste with enamal protection. Have been visiting dentist and my teeth are actually showing signs of improvement.

June 4, 2016 at 9:10 amI have been drinking ginger lemon tea for 2 weeks now. I have noticed I no longer feel bloated; and my knees which were aching, feel so much better.
I slice the ginger in boiling water. Let it steep for about 5 minutes. Squeeze 1/2 lemon and leave it in the water. I then pour into a pitcher, add water and refrigerate.
I love it and have been making it on a daily basis.

July 12, 2016 at 8:16 amCharlotte, since ginger is really food (or a root, or spice, however it’s defined) and not technically a tea, there shouldn’t be any risk in consuming it daily. Enjoy!

July 15, 2016 at 12:03 amI have one question… If I drink the Twinings of London Lemon and Ginger tea, do I still get the benefits that were stated above? Thank you.

July 19, 2016 at 4:04 amWell, we hear about many things that are beneficial to the body, actually we are lost about what should we drink or eat to stay healthy and fight diseases. i am having ginger lemon tea on a daily basis. Are those tea bags (London tea) as efficient as natural mix?
Nava
July 19, 2016 at 11:55 amHi John, the ginger lemon tea we’re covering here is technically an infusion, and not the same as a tea made with actual tea leaves or herbs. So I’d say the benefits are from the actual ingredients, ginger and lemon, prepared fresh.

October 2, 2016 at 8:19 pmI just tried it for the first time today. I froze my ginger and then when I wanted a cup I just zested enough for my tea skin and all. I hear the skin is eve better for you. Then I zest one whole lemon and the juice it. I put the lemon zest and ginger in a cup of water and boil. I let steep for about 20 minutes. Then I add the juice and just a bit of honey. I drank it and within about 20 minutes or less I felt as though I had just had a glass of wine. It relaxes me so much. I thought for a minute I was high. Great stuff.

October 24, 2016 at 1:05 amwhat is the ratio of lemon/ginger/water?
Also be careful. Lemon (and possibly ginger? i don’t know) can have a detoxing effect so if you aren’t used to drinking it and you drink a lot all of a sudden you can end up spending some time on the toilet….so just work up to it.

November 27, 2016 at 10:08 pmRon, we can’t really comment on whether drinking ginger-lemon tea is effective for losing weight, but it certainly can’t hurt to drink it in the evening.

November 27, 2016 at 10:26 amI have been using/drinking lemon & ginger tea every morning for about 18months. While all those round me were going down with cold & flue I was clear…. Until I stopped for about 5 days,(pressure of work), then I got a heavy cold. Obviously I can’t be sure that my not having my morning brew was the cause, but I believe it was.
A question that has been asked, but not answered, is how much ginger. I have often read HOW to make it, but never the quantities.
So let me throw in my 1 cents worth! My lemons weigh about 130g giving approx 60 – 65g juice.
Ginger, depends what size piece I can break off, but about 30g. I remove the skin & grate.
Lemon & ginger in a cup with hot water & a tea bag. Leave for about 15 min, strain, add 2 tea spoons honey & drink hot.
I would be interested to hear what others have to say. Thank you
Sherill Pierce
December 1, 2016 at 7:02 pmI like to boil the ginger and let steep. Let it cool down a little before adding honey. I juice 2 lemons (cause I keep the rest of the juice refrigerated for other uses) and add the lemon juice to my taste. I fill a 64 oz container and keep it refrigerated. I can drink it cold or warm.

December 15, 2016 at 10:53 amHi, I been drinking this tea every day for two mints. It’s just for me the greatest tea! Before I was carving for the sweet stuff a lot but, NOT NOW! I have lost more than couple pounds too! 🙂 Also, to answer to USMAN SHA, I have little problems with cholesterol, what I did is every morning for 12 weeks drinking ORGANIC APPLE CIDER 2 teaspoons add water approx. 3 3/4 glass some ice cubes & drink it before you brush your theth on empty stomach. That also bust your metabolisam & helping to loose weight specially if you each wat you eat. It’s just great & refreshing. After you done with 12 weeks drinking APPLE CUDER VINEGAR go & have lab test to check on your cholesterol. I found this in my email & I heard also long time ago from older people in country where I was born that Apple cider vinegar is really healthy for lots of things. I also drink this famous LEMOM GINGER TEAZthat I prepare myself from the organic ginger root, organic lemon & adding some honey its just fantastic! You can try this or not it’s up to you!.

December 26, 2016 at 6:12 pmI was wondering: usually I love ginger/lemon fr teabag, not yet made from scratch. But recently, I had a bit rushed meal with couscous , fried mackerel& broccoli.later a couple of hrs after at work w clients, I had the tea and experienced a very sudden nausea cum violent asthma cough- + evacuation and stomach cramps. I guess, actually the fish may not have been any more 100% . By incidently choosing this tea, I got rid of it, even though it hadn’t tasted bad.and I was not sick before drinking the tea. I still love the tea and will make it w the real stuff and better honey.. I felt totally fine after…

December 29, 2016 at 5:56 amNot sure if ginger and lemon tea I just purchased out of the store had a direct effect on my knee arthritis, but I am noticing less pain, any comments? Also it appears to be some what of a laxative for me, IJS. Thanks in advance for the tips! Happy holidays!

December 29, 2016 at 6:12 amCan this tea act as a laxative as well?

December 29, 2016 at 5:58 pmLove this drink. I grate loads of ginger skin and all., then bring to gently simmer for 10 mins. And alow to cool for about 2 hours to infuse. Run through a sive into airtight bottle so it’s ready in the fridge anytime I need it. Add 1/2 lemon juiced , one teaspoon of raw honey. Water hot but not boiling as it reduces the benefits of the honey. I drink this fabulous drink 3 sometimes 4 times daily.

January 5, 2017 at 5:52 pmI have been drinking hot lemon water (1/2 lemon squeezed into mug, add boiled water) for a long time and recently started adding ginger root (1″ inch square sliced thinly) and initially there was a digestive concern but I have found cold season much better since. I also added cucumber once but that had a laxative effect so removed that.
My question: recently, I have been dumping the remaining pulp and ginger slices into a 24 oz container, adding the squeezed shell and filling with cold water and sipping through the day, topping up as I go. Would that have any continuing effect or is it just flavouring the water at this stage?
Thanks!

January 7, 2017 at 9:13 amIs drinking the ginger and lemon tea in a teabag as beneficial to your health as making it?

January 9, 2017 at 9:59 pmDolores, it’s hard to know these things for sure, but intuitively, it seems like fresh ingredients would be better.

January 9, 2017 at 7:18 amDoes anyone add honey to the lemon and ginger hot tea for a little sweetness?
Nava
January 9, 2017 at 9:33 pmSandra, perhaps no one has mentioned this since this is a vegan site and honey isn’t considered vegan, but if you wish to do so that’s fine; just be aware that the honey adds calories and is hard on the teeth!

January 20, 2017 at 4:28 pmHi, it is still effective. But I suggest to brew freshly everyday, as the oxidation of the ginger infusion would turn its benefits down.

January 26, 2017 at 9:06 amHi Guys!
I LIVE BY THIS and can attest to the benefits. To be honest I didn’t realize I was “blessed” with great skin and an uneventful digestive tract until I hit my late 30’s and friends with crappy habits have issues with everything (like everyday)!
I’m sick maybe once a year IF that! The only side effect is I pee…and pee…and pee, but I guess that’s good. If I go without my tea (I boil lemon & ginger & steep w/Pu-Erh tea) I feel like crap, I think I’m addicted to the clean feeling and loads of caffeine.
Michael C
January 26, 2017 at 9:45 amI make sure to grate my ginger, so it doesn’t need to steep as long and use a fresh lemon combined with raw, organic unfiltered honey. It wakes me up just as much as coffee used to, without the jitters, and feels and tastes so clean and fresh. Sometimes I will add a pinch of cayenne to it for an extra boost.

September 25, 2017 at 10:16 pmPeople – Here’s what you need to do, Get *Organic* ginger, not the regular one, grate about half an inch of peeled ginger root into boiling water (2 cups of water) and boil for a few minutes, do not strain the ginger shreds leave them on and drink with lemon and honey first thing in the morning and along with each meal. There is no substitute for this in terms of benefits this concoction provides.
